The conference was attended by Marija Vukelić, director of the Zagreb Salon, Miroslav Palinkaš, representative of Pavlomir Winery, and Tena Peričić, director of the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski.

Evaluation of the Salon of Sparkling Wines Network

As in previous years, a large international evaluation of the Salon of Sparkling Wines network was organized in Ljubljana on May 20 at the Pen Klub restaurant. A seven-member commission of Croatian and Slovenian enologists, wine academics/diplomates of the London WSET school, was led by the chairwoman, Prof. Dr. Ana-Marija Jagatić Korenika from the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb. The commission evaluated 74 samples. For the first time in the history of the joint evaluation, Croatia won the absolute victory, and most importantly, Pavlomir Winery’s sparkling wine, 1288, took third place in the overall ranking, thus remaining among the top three sparkling wines this year as well. The best was Kopjar Organic Rosé Pinot Noir from Central Bregovita Croatia, from Zagorje, which with 91.2 points achieved the highest rating in the history of this evaluation, and second was the white sparkling wine Jazz from the Josipović winery in Slavonia. Likewise, in the category of white sparkling wines, made by the traditional method, sparkling wine 1288 achieved a high second place!

“I am proud and happy that our sparkling wine 1288 is among the top three again this year in such a large and important competition. For us winemakers, competitions are a very good indicator of whether we are heading in the right direction, what we need to work on, and how we should develop further. Pavlomir Winery can boast four sparkling wines, of which three are made by the traditional, classic method, and our grape-based sparkling wine, made by the charmat method, is a real highlight. I am glad that this year our winery will also host the first Sparkling Breakfast in the Vineyard in the Kvarner region, in cooperation with the Salon of Sparkling Wines and our Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board,” said Miroslav Palinkaš, representative of Pavlomir Winery.

First Kvarner Sparkling Breakfast at Pavlomir Winery, 24.06.2023.

Salon of Sparkling Wines Zagreb prides itself on being the only wine festival in Croatia that contributes throughout the year—with events, promotions, and training—to the education of Croatian sparkling wine enthusiasts, and director Marija Vukelić has devised Sparkling Breakfasts in the Vineyard (from Zagorje, Plešivica, Srijem, Erdut, Međimurje to Kvarner) and sparkling buffets in Central and Southern Dalmatia. On this occasion, the first Kvarner Sparkling Breakfast in the Vineyard was presented, organized in cooperation with the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski and the Kvarner Wines Association, scheduled for June 24 at Pavlomir Winery in Novi Vinodolski. At the press conference, Miroslav Palinkaš, owner of Pavlomir Winery, was present along with Tena Peričić, director of the Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board, who announced the grand 145th anniversary of organized tourism in the region. It has even been 735 years since the Vinodol Law was written back in 1288 in Novi Vinodolski, in the area of today’s City Council. In 1878, along the Bribirska Riva in Novi Vinodolski, the Mrzljak family built their own swimming facility, which confirms that tourism took root early and firmly in Novi Vinodolski, thus marking that year as the beginning of tourism development. Alongside the 145th anniversary of tourism, the 40th anniversary of the expansion of Hotel Lišanj, the 30th anniversary of the International Summer Carnival, and the 25th anniversary of Pavlomir Winery are celebrated. These anniversaries speak to the long tradition and importance of this historic town, both on the map of Croatia and far beyond. Through numerous events in May and June, organized by the Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board in cooperation with institutions, associations, and tourism entities in the town, all these anniversaries will be celebrated. One of the events will be the Kvarner Sparkling Breakfast in the Vineyard, to which all lovers of sparkling wines, local products, and great outdoor fun are invited. The ticket for the Sparkling Breakfast costs 20 euros, and the breakfast begins at 10:00 AM. Additionally, a workshop on pairing chocolate and sparkling wines, as well as a presentation of new still wines by winemakers exhibiting at the event, will be organized.

“First of all, I want to congratulate our Pavlomir and say that this is a great success for all of us, because it is through such results, effort, and work that the winery promotes its region, Novi Vinodolski, and elevates the quality of the destination. I also want to thank dear Marija for the opportunity to present the Sparkling Breakfast and our important anniversaries in Zagreb as part of the announcement of the 6th Salon of Sparkling Wines Zagreb. In this celebratory year, as we mark 145 years of tourism and 25 years of Pavlomir Winery, we will offer visitors a Sparkling Breakfast in the Vineyard on June 24 and a wonderful concert by the klapa Intrade at Pavlomir on June 28,” said Tena Peričić, director of the Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board.

The 6th Salon of Sparkling Wines will be held in Zagreb, at the Maksimir restaurant, on June 2, where around 30 winemakers from Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy will be presented, inviting all enthusiasts to moderate enjoyment of bubbles. Tickets can be purchased in advance for 30 euros (Entrio) or on the day of the Salon at the entrance at the box office. In addition to sparkling wine tasting and mingling with winemakers, visitors will be able to attend two wine workshops, for which entry is free with prior registration. Once again, the organizers emphasize the importance of education and raising the level of table culture.

“And this year too, exhibitors will present their wines in a large hall, and visitors will be able to stroll and sit on the terrace of the Maksimir restaurant and, during breaks, order dishes prepared as a special ‘Sparkling Menu of Maksimir Restaurant’ for the occasion. To make the experience ‘like in a movie,’ Elma & Admir from the Filmmusicorkestar will provide filmic musical accompaniment. For hydration, Cetina water will be provided, Tvornica Leda will beautify the space with ice sculptures, and in the workshops we will be drinking wines from special Riedel glasses,” explained Salon director Prof. Marija Vukelić, adding that the Zagreb event has been organized for six years under the Slovenian license of the ‘Salon of Sparkling Wines’ network and that Slovenian sparkling wine producers are always welcomed guests in Croatia, just as Croatians are in Slovenia. She also announced the 9th Salon of Sparkling Wines Ljubljana, scheduled to take place one week after the Zagreb event, on June 9, 2023.

Partners and friends of the 6th Salon of Sparkling Wines Zagreb are the Maksimir restaurant, Miva Galerija Vina, Cetina water, Tvornica Leda Zagreb, MB SuperCopy, the portals Travel Advisor/Travel Consultant and Foto Foodie, the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski, and Pavlomir Winery.

Photographs by: Julio Frangen

At the press conference of the 6th Salon of Sparkling Wines in Zagreb, held at the Maksimir restaurant on May 23, the results of the evaluation…

[18

post-8257","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-announcements
["GET
