On the occasion of the global Earth Day celebration, the City of Novi Vinodolski, the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski, and the municipal company Ivanj are once again organizing their traditional sea and environmental clean-up action titled “Let’s Protect the Sea, Let’s Protect the Environment, Let’s Protect Novi!”. The goal of this initiative is to raise awareness of the importance of preserving natural resources and to involve all community members in environmental protection, in order to maintain the beauty of our city and coastline.

This year, Earth Day will be celebrated from April 8th to April 30th, and the program will include numerous activities. Among the participants supporting the action are the Novi Underwater Activities Society, the Dive Side Diving Center, the Gradina and Košutnjak-Novi Hunting Associations, the San Marino Volunteer Fire Department, Kindergarten Fijolica, and Ivana Mažuranić Elementary School, who will contribute to various aspects of this environmental initiative.

Activities will begin on April 8th and 10th, when Kindergarten Fijolica will organize educational visits to the recycling yard. These educational activities will help children and their parents understand the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling in everyday life.

On Wednesday, April 9th, Kindergarten Fijolica will host the “Little Workshop of Big Wonders” – a creative recycling workshop for children and parents. The goal of this workshop is to teach, through play and hands-on activities, how various materials can be reused, thus encouraging children to contribute to protecting the environment in a creative way.

On April 11th, students from the lower grades of elementary school will carry out an eco-action in the park and on the school grounds, and at the same time, there will be a kindergarten environment clean-up action called “We Learn Something New.”

Underwater clean-up activities will take place on Saturday, April 12th in the areas of Klenovica, Povile, and the main city beach in Novi Vinodolski, organized by diving centers and the underwater activities club.

A hinterland clean-up action will also take place on April 12th, carried out by the Gradina and Košutnjak-Novi Hunting Associations. Through their participation, members of these associations also aim to highlight the problem of littering in nature, which harms both plant and animal species, and consequently, people as well.

Finally, on April 22nd, Earth Day itself, a special fashion show titled “Clothes Made from Waste That Everyone Loves” will take place in the center of Novi Vinodolski. This event will be both entertaining and educational, showcasing recycled materials in a creative way. The fashion show will be open to all visitors and will demonstrate how old items can be turned into entirely new, functional, and imaginative clothing.

Additionally, on April 22nd at the Public Reading Room and Library, an exhibition titled “A New Life for Old Things” will open. This exhibition will showcase artistic and creative works made from recycled materials and will inspire visitors by showing how old objects can gain a new purpose and form.

The exhibition will be open from Tuesday, April 22nd, to Wednesday, April 30th, during the library’s regular opening hours, and visitors can view it free of charge.

The “Let’s Protect Novi” action offers all citizens the opportunity to actively participate in nature conservation, contributing to the beauty and sustainability of the city. We invite everyone to join the planned activities and help create a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.

Let us pause and think about what we can do, or at least what we should avoid doing, so that we can leave future generations a better environment, a better Novi, a better Earth!
