Lookouts – Eyes of Vinodol

A breathtaking view

The entire Vinodol is a beautiful story woven from rich history, numerous cultural and historical landmarks, natural beauty, and tradition. One way to experience Vinodol is by traveling through it – but seeing it from a “bird’s-eye view” is something entirely different.

"The Eyes of Vinodol" or the story of six viewpoints scattered across Vinodol

Six viewpoint locations were selected, three (3) in the area of the Municipality of Vinodol:

  • above the village of Drivenik – viewpoint “Mahavica
  • above the village of Grižane/Tribalj – viewpoint “Pridva
  • above the village of Bribir – viewpoint “Slipica

…and three (3) in the area of the City of Novi Vinodolski:

  • above the village of Ledenice – viewpoint “Gradina
  • below Sviba – viewpoint “Sviba
  • near Krmpote – viewpoint “Kuk

During the conceptual planning and construction of the viewpoints, attention was paid to their visual appeal – in particular to landscape value, wide vistas that form a complete visual impression of the whole area, proximity to roads (preferably asphalted), and accessible routes for buses or minibuses. Design and landscaping were carried out with respect for the environment and the existing landscape to preserve authenticity. Each viewpoint includes proper signage, parking space and a turning point (or one nearby), as well as benches and waste bins.

1. Viewpoint "Mahavica" (781 m a.s.l.) (named after the nearby peak)

The viewpoint is located on the asphalt road Antovo – Plase, at the Razromir pass, 781 meters above sea level. The narrow road ascending alongside the magnificent rocky formations and screes of Kozak enhances the overall landscape impression of the area. Every meter along the road, winding through the steep rocky slopes of Kozak, leaves a lasting impression.

To the north rises the stony, conical peak of Medviđak; to the west, the beautiful mountain meadows of Razromir, scattered with stone blocks; to the southwest, the Učka mountain massif and the Kvarner Bay dotted with the islands of Krk, Cres, Rab, and Pag, framed by the Velebit mountain range. To the southeast, the view stretches over the mountain that steeply descends into the Vinodol Valley all the way to Novi Vinodolski. Along the coastline, the view reaches as far as Selce.

2. Viewpoint “Pridva” 573 m a.s.l. (named after the nearby peak)

This viewpoint is also located along the Antovo–Lič road. Although it is lower than the previous viewpoint, the elevation difference actually allows for a bird’s-eye-like view of the surrounding area. To the north rises the stony, conical peak of Medviđak; to the west stretch the beautiful mountain meadows of Razromir, scattered with stone blocks; to the southwest lies the Učka mountain massif and the Kvarner Bay dotted with the islands of Krk, Cres, Rab, and Pag, framed by the Velebit mountain range. To the southeast, the view extends over the mountain that steeply descends into the Vinodol Valley, reaching all the way to Novi Vinodolski. Along the coast, the view reaches as far as Selce.

3. Viewpoint “Slipica” 446 m a.s.l.

The viewpoint is located at the fifth kilometer of the Bribir – Lukovo – Lič road, above the town of Bribir on a steep rocky cliff. From the viewpoint, there is a stunning view of the Velebit mountain range, the Velebit Channel, the Kvarner archipelago, Učka, Novi Vinodolski, and the Vinodol Valley all the way to Grižane.

4. Viewpoint “Gradina” 379 m a.s.l.

The viewpoint is located on the road from Novi Vinodolski to Ledenice, just above the village of Ledenice, offering a beautiful view of the Ledenice field, Novi Vinodolski, Klenovica, the Velebit mountain range, and the Kvarner archipelago…

5. Viewpoint “Sviba” 753 m a.s.l. (named after the nearby peak)

To the right of the Novi Vinodolski – Breze road, from the beautiful mountain meadows of Pletena and while enjoying unobstructed views of the entire surrounding area, the viewpoint “Sviba” is located along the road near the village of Luka Krmpotska. The entire road serves as a scenic route. The viewpoint itself is located beneath the grassy slopes of Mala and Velika Sviba, on stunning mountain meadows offering open and breathtaking views in all directions: the mountainous hinterland, inland villages, the Kvarner Bay, Velebit, and Učka.

6. Viewpoint “Kuk” 301 m a.s.l. (named after the nearby peak)

Located right on the seaside entrance to the Krmpote field in the village of Krmpote, the viewpoint “Kuk” offers an interesting view of the entire Novi Vinodolski Riviera (Smokvica, Klenovica, Povile, and Novi Vinodolski), the Kvarner Bay and archipelago, the Velebit and Učka mountains, and a longitudinal view of the Vinodol Valley.
