Cultural heritage – history in stone and tradition
Novi Vinodolski, a town rich in history and cultural heritage, preserves its ancient fortresses such as the Frankopan Castle and Lopsica, while its Old Town, with winding stone alleys, echoes with the spirit of centuries past. Within the castle, you will find the National Reading Room (founded in 1845), the City Museum and Gallery, while Turnac Tower transforms into an art exhibition center in summer and a magical Santa Claus House in winter. Numerous churches and chapels, including the unique Glass Chapel, testify to the region’s deep spiritual tradition.
Novi Vinodolski is also home to the renowned Vinodol Code, one of the most important medieval legal documents in Europe. During carnival season, the centuries-old Novljanski Mesopust fills the city streets with music and joy, while the Mažuranić family has left an indelible mark on Croatian history. On the hill above the town stand the impressive remains of Gradina Ledenice, confirming that this coastal oasis carefully preserves the traces of its rich past.
