Novi Vinodolski Wins Two Prestigious Awards at the “Simply the Best” Ceremony
10. April 2025.
At the ceremonial awarding of the national prize for creativity, innovation, development, and enhancement of tourism services, “Simply the Best”, held on April 9, 2025, in Sveti Martin Spa, Novi Vinodolski won two prestigious awards, reaffirming its excellence and commitment to developing its tourism offer.
In the category Events – Entertainment, the award went to the event Okolotorno, which brings the old town of Novi Vinodolski to life every Wednesday throughout July and August. This year, it will mark its 10th anniversary. Okolotorno offers visitors an authentic experience of local culture, tradition, and customs through historical characters, musical performances, and a rich array of food and souvenirs. The expert jury recognized Okolotorno for its creative development and meaningful content that showcases the cultural heritage and traditions of the local community, enhancing the tourism offer and the destination’s appeal.
The second award was presented to the souvenir “Novi Vinodolski in a Wooden Crate” by the artisan workshop Drveni Val, in the category Items Inspired by Local Urban Themes and Features. This unique souvenir, made from natural driftwood by Ms. Željka Komorčec, was highlighted as an outstanding example of creativity and inventiveness in designing souvenirs inspired by urban life. It reflects the cultural-historical and artistic heritage, as well as the contemporary identity of Croatia.
The awards ceremony was attended by Tena Peričić, Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski, who accepted the award for Okolotorno and, on behalf of Ms. Željka, also received the award for the unique souvenir.
The “Simply the Best” award, now in its 15th year, is presented by the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA), the business-tourism exchange PUT, and the tourism magazine Way to Croatia. It celebrates excellence in tourism and highlights best practices throughout the country. This year, the PUT Business-Tourism Exchange is being held for the 25th time, featuring a record number of participants.
“I’m truly glad our event and souvenir were recognized, as this also helps promote Novi. The tourism exchange is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and media from neighboring countries. On the second day, we had a B2B workshop where I was able to present Novi Vinodolski, learn about new trends in tourism, and also plan some new activities for our destination. Tomorrow, the final day, there will be a UHPA expert program focused on ‘Culinary heritage as inspiration and foundation for the development of food and wine tourism’, with many exciting case studies from across Croatia. I’m proud Novi Vinodolski is part of this story and I sincerely congratulate the organizers for their tradition and the increasing popularity of this event,” said Tena Peričić.
These awards are yet another confirmation of the success and investment in creating a richer and more attractive tourist offer in Novi Vinodolski, which is drawing more domestic and international visitors each year.
