Museum Night

The National Museum and Gallery in Novi Vinodolski has once again prepared an exciting program for Museum Night.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, visitors will be able to explore a photography exhibition by Ivan Hušner entitled “Ships of the Novi Harbour 1960–1975”, featuring vessels that arrived and departed from the port of Novi Vinodolski, lovingly and diligently captured by Mr. Hušner.

In a town with such a long and rich history as Novi, much has happened over the years. As time flies by, we take the opportunity each year to recall some important events. During Museum Night, we will present the anniversaries we are commemorating in 2023.

Special highlights include:

  • 530 years since Bishop Kristofor arrived in Novi

  • 430 and 410 years since Venetian attacks on the town

  • 160 years since the construction of the bridge over the Ričina River

  • 100 years since the founding of the local football club

  • 70 years since the founding of the Tourist Board

  • 50 years since the reburial of Vladimir Fran Mažuranić in Novi

The future belongs to the young – and our youngest citizens, the kindergarten children, will exhibit handmade works reflecting traditional customs of Novi. It’s the perfect time, as our “Mesopust” – the fifth season – has begun.

The youth will also demonstrate their knowledge in the Little Night Quiz-Pliz about local and Croatian history, with pupils from the upper grades of the Ivan Mažuranić Elementary School competing.

Continuing tradition, we’ll also host a workshop on tying the “rubac” – a headscarf that is part of the traditional women’s folk costume, tied in a specific regional style.

Admission is free and we look forward to your visit!
