Discover the Fishermen’s Trail
To best explore the Vinodol region, enjoy fresh air, and spend your free time actively, the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski, in collaboration with the Mountaineering Society Strilež, is organizing a guided Fishermen’s Trail walk on Saturday, October 14. The trail begins in Klenovica, a charming fishing village featuring a monument to the Fisherman and the Sea—honoring a local fisherman who repeatedly saved lives in stormy seas. Here, you can savor fresh fish specialties in restaurants where catch goes straight from the nets to your plate. The sea is vital to locals; as you walk the trail, you’ll pass the tuna weir—symbol of the fishermen’s and sailors’ hard life—and a lighthouse on the islet of St. Anton, now connected to the mainland by a causeway. The scent of pine and sea will accompany you all the way to Smokvica, known for its crystal-clear waters fed by numerous sprung sources (vrulje).
The 5 km walk starts at 10:00 AM at the parking lot near Villa Lostura. The trail is easy, but sturdy footwear and water are essential.
The Tourist Boards of Novi Vinodolski, Crikvenica, and Vinodol Municipality are currently marking, photographing, and preparing mountain trails—Fishermen’s Trail will be featured on a new shared map. Along the Crikvenica–Vinodol Riviera, you’ll soon have access to 20 hiking and walking routes ranging from leisurely strolls to demanding hikes requiring full gear.
All that’s left for you is to seize the sunny Saturday, breathe in the sea air, and discover the Fishermen’s Trail—while we prepare to introduce you to more challenging routes in our area soon.
