SUNNY SATURDAY MORNING DISCOVERING PART OF THE TRAIL FROM THE SPRING TO THE FRANKOPANS
Unusually warm weather for this time of year, with 20°C and calm conditions, attracted a large number of walkers on Saturday, November 18, to explore the coastal section of the new hiking trail From the Spring to the Frankopans. Once again, the guided walk was organized by the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski, led by Tanja Malovoz, president of the Mountaineering Society Strilež.
The strong demand for such guided walks was evident, as nearly 50 walkers joined the hike and explored the trail up to Žrnovnica spring. The adventure began with a warm welcome at the meeting point in front of the Garfild restaurant, where local brandy and cookies were served to help gather strength before heading to Mala Draga. Due to heavy rains throughout November, walkers were surprised to see small coastal springs at Mala Draga. The most challenging part of the trail followed – the ascent to Veles. The reward for this effort was a breathtaking panoramic view of Mala Draga and Porto Teplo.
The route continued to the Žrnovnica bay, home to a public water supply system. The host, Ante Maretić from the VIO Žrnovnica Crikvenica Vinodol society, introduced the walkers to this vital water source. The spring provides high-quality drinking water of mild hardness and a constant temperature of 8°C, supplying Novi Vinodolski, Crikvenica, and the Vinodol municipality. Walkers were amazed by the huge volume of water, noting that only a small part is used for drinking while the rest flows back into the sea.
The 8 km circular walk continued through Porto Teplo. Carried by the scent of crystal-clear sea, walkers enjoyed the simple beauties of nature. This walk reminded everyone of the importance of protecting nature, without which life is impossible, and the warm weather further enriched the experience.
Given the happy faces of the walkers, this is surely just one of many walks to come. Plans are underway to develop and mark trails so visitors can explore the paths and walks in our area independently in the future.
