At the end of the 19th century, a meek accountant from Cleveland named William Blake spends his meager savings to reach the industrial town of Machine, on the edge of the Wild West, in hopes of starting a new life. But upon arrival, he learns that the promised job is no longer available. Out of money and options, he meets Thel, a former prostitute who takes him in. That same night, Thel’s ex-lover Charlie appears, leading to a deadly shootout—Thel is killed, William is wounded, and Charlie ends up dead.

Unbeknownst to him, Charlie was the son of John Dickinson, the factory owner who now hires three ruthless bounty hunters to track down his son’s killer.
