Novi Vinodolski, as its name suggests, is a town proud not only of its rich history but also of its wine valley and its culture of winemaking and viticulture. For this reason, the feast of St. Martin, the patron saint of winemakers and vineyards, is celebrated in a special way in regions with a strong wine culture. This year, Martinje in Novi Vinodolski will be marked by a two-day program.

On Thursday, November 10th, at 6:00 PM, a workshop on the vinorel technique, painting with red wine, will be held. The workshop will be led by the singer and artist Marina Tomašević from Zadar, accompanied by the well-known Kvarner sommelier Lucija Matijević, who will talk about wine. Vinorel is a water-based painting and drawing technique that is perhaps closest in result to tonal watercolor. The particular challenge of vinorel is that the image changes during the painting process itself, usually using different tones of the same grape variety, lightened by dilution with water or darkened by boiling during which the water evaporates.

The workshop is free for participants, the number of participants is limited, and applications are accepted via email at tzg-novi-vinodolski@ri.t-com.hr.

The workshop will be held at Marina Novi. The organizer is the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski, and the co-organizer is Marina Novi.

The main Martinje celebration will take place on Martinje Day at the Cultural Center in Novi Vinodolski. The organizer of the celebration is traditionally the Association of Friends of Grapes and Wine “Ružica Vinodola”, with co-organizers including the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski, the City of Novi Vinodolski, the Hunting Society “Košutnjak”, and Pavlomir Ltd. The celebration will feature a large wine exhibition of amateur winemakers from Vinodol, followed by festivities and the christening of Vinodol wines. Entrance to the Cultural Center includes the purchase of a Martinje glass with a bag, allowing unlimited wine tasting of amateur winemakers’ wines and free unlimited consumption of our indigenous Žlahtina wine. The gastronomic delights will be provided by the Hunting Society “Košutnjak”, and good entertainment by the klapa “Nevera”, all starting at 8:00 PM.
