On Wednesday, August 12, Damir Stojnić will open his exhibition at the Turnac City Gallery.

What happens to identity when it is no longer a fixed and predetermined category, but something shaped through encounters, traces and relationships with others?

Starting from existing artworks, found objects and fragments, Stojnić intervenes in other artists’ visual worlds while preserving their traces, signatures and history. Rather than erasing the original work, his interventions create space for a dialogue between the self and the other, the familiar and the unfamiliar. Through the motifs of fragmentation, the jigsaw puzzle and the tailor’s measuring tape, the exhibition explores identity as a process that is constantly being constructed, changing and being re-examined.

Damir Stojnić (Rijeka, 1972) graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He has exhibited in more than one hundred exhibitions in Croatia and abroad (Athens, Cairo, Vienna, London, Venice, Milan, Prague…). He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the purchase award of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka at the 2002 International Triennial of Original Drawing, as well as the second prize at the 7th Croatian Watercolour Triennial. He works as an associate professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka, where he teaches Painting and Comics and Illustration. Since 2015, as a member of the Labin Art Express art collective, he has been managing the DKC Lamparna Gallery in Labin, where he has curated solo exhibitions by numerous Croatian and international artists. He lives and works in Rijeka and Istria.

The exhibition will be open until August 23 and can be visited from Monday to Saturday during two opening periods, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The gallery is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Admission to all exhibitions is free.
