The Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski is proud to present a brand-new program in the time slot of the former summer carnival, titled Carnival Nostalgia! This year, instead of the usual masked parades, the whole town will come alive with tradition and joy!

Why Carnival Nostalgia? Carnival, because on Friday, July 5, we will showcase the most beautiful and valuable cultural treasure we have – our local custom, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia in 2011. Nostalgia, because on Saturday, July 6, we’ll take a step back in time with retro scenery, music, and fun for all generations!

To present a glimpse of our tradition, carnival characters (mesopustari) will walk along Korzo hrvatskih branitelja on Friday, greeting everyone. Then, the Carnival doll will be judged, the Žitak will be read at Vinodol Law Square, and the Novljansko kolo will be danced with traditional singers. The goal is to share this experience with our guests and inspire them to visit Novi during the winter months when these customs truly come to life. We invite all citizens and costume owners to join us on Friday at 8:00 PM dressed in traditional attire! They will also walk the Korzo and join the dance at Vinodol Law Square. The evening will be hosted by Irena Grdinić.

After the cultural presentation, the party continues at two stages: Bend Cabaret and a DJ at Frankopan Square, and klapa Intriga at Ivan Mažuranić Square. Children will enjoy the kids’ corner, while Elio Bašan and his dancers will lead a dance workshop to prepare everyone for Saturday’s big disco night.

On Saturday, the town transforms into a giant disco with three stages and a variety of programs for all ages. Vespa Club Novi Vinodolski and the Oldtimer Club Rijeka will add a nostalgic touch with vintage vehicles on display in the town center. At Vinodol Law Square, there will be a kids’ disco with 70s and 80s music and costumed animators. Meanwhile, adults can enjoy live performances by SuperCover Band and The Groovers at Frankopan Square, accompanied by food stands and themed photo spots.

A unique highlight awaits at Ivan Mažuranić Square – a Rolly Park with a DJ booth in the center, perfect for all roller-skating lovers! Skating to retro beats by DJ Boris is sure to draw in kids and grown-ups alike.

Since the 70s and 80s were such a special time for fashion, music, and style, we invite everyone to wear their best vintage looks and take a photo! Send your retro shots to info@tz-novi-vinodolski.hr – the most creative and cheerful one will win a prize!
