As part of the Summer School of Human Rights, students visited the Novi Vinodolski hinterland

19. September 2023.

After a three-year break caused by the coronavirus, the Summer School of Human Rights was officially opened on Monday at the City Hall in Novi Vinodolski. This project has been successfully running for many years, and this year it is taking place from September 18 to 22.

On this occasion, Novi Vinodolski is hosting students from the law faculties of Rijeka, Zagreb, Osijek, Split, and Mostar, as well as professors from Croatian law faculties.

In addition to the lectures held daily at the City Hall, students also have time to explore the city where the summer school takes place every year. This year, the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski, in cooperation with the Mountaineering Association Strilež, organized a visit to the hinterland – specifically the area of Krmpote.

The meeting point was the newly renovated bistro Forestia (located in the Hunting Lodge in Krmpote), where lunch was organized. Students and professor Željko Bartulović were welcomed by Tena Peričić, director of the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski, and Tanja Malovoz, president of the Mountaineering Association Strilež.

After lunch at Bistro Forestia, a walk through the labyrinths began, during which students learned about the plants growing along the trail, the labyrinths themselves, and the old cemetery of the village of Omar, located not far from the last labyrinth. On the way back from the labyrinths, the group also visited the Glass Chapel.

“Dear students, once again welcome to Novi Vinodolski, and today in particular to Krmpote. We are in our beautiful, green hinterland, in the village of Krmpote which is part of our city. Today, we will introduce you to the green part of our destination as we walk together through the Heavenly Labyrinths and visit the Glass Chapel in the village of Omar. I hope you enjoy your stay in Novi Vinodolski and that you return to us again,” said Director Peričić.

“We walked through all ten Heavenly Labyrinths, which were designed and created by Ingrid Karačić Butorac to the delight of all our visitors. The trail is not demanding and I believe you enjoyed it, especially the view from the last and largest labyrinth. Not far from the labyrinths is the Glass Chapel. The Glass Chapel is located in the village of Omar in the area of Luka Krmpotska. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is entirely made of a metal structure, with glass facades and a glass roof. According to local residents, the chapel was built by Petar Krpan, known as Samac, the owner of the property, at the beginning of the 20th century,” said Tanja Malovoz, president of PD Strilež.

After the tour, each student received a small gift as a keepsake from their visit to Novi Vinodolski – honey and gingerbread from Komadina family farm, and brochures from the Tourist Board to get to know the city and its offerings more closely. The students were happy to spend a lovely day in nature, gaining new insights and reconnecting with the outdoors through the labyrinth walk!
