As every year, the National Museum and Gallery of Novi Vinodolski takes part in the Night of Museums, one of Croatia’s most popular cultural events. From 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the rich history and traditions of Novi Vinodolski through the museum’s permanent exhibition.

The permanent exhibition covers 186 square metres and includes an ethnographic collection presenting traditional ways of life, an archaeological collection revealing the area’s earliest history, a room dedicated to the Mažuranić family—one of the most important families in Croatian history—as well as many other artefacts significant to the local cultural heritage.

Alongside the permanent exhibition, visitors can explore the exhibition “Mlečići popališe Novi”, marking the 410th anniversary of the Venetian attack on Novi Vinodolski, and attend a presentation of conservation and restoration works that demonstrate how museum objects are carefully preserved for future generations.

A special part of the evening is dedicated to the Novljanski Mesopust, a traditional carnival protected as an intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. This vibrant custom involves almost the entire local community and begins immediately after the Christmas holidays, symbolically referred to as the fifth season of the year. How well the names and sequence of Mesopust traditions are known will be revealed in a fun quiz taking place from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The quiz is organised in cooperation with the Ivan Mažuranić Primary School and is intended for children and parents.
