Greener Novi as part of the “Croatia Naturally Yours” project

9. December 2024.

The Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski is once again actively participating in the national project of the Croatian National Tourist Board, “Croatia Naturally Yours”, aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the natural environment. One of the key objectives of this project is to compensate for carbon dioxide emissions caused by the increased number of car visits. For this purpose, the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski received funds from the Croatian National Tourist Board for the procurement of native seedlings and trees.

In addition to planting, the obligation includes caring for the seedlings, monitoring their growth, and marking them with the sustainable tourism label “Croatia Naturally Yours”. It was important to consider native species and the local climate where the trees are planted, and to ensure they are placed in visible locations within the destination. Data on the planted seedlings were also entered into the European Environment Agency’s planting monitoring application, MapMyFress, with the aim of gathering global data on tree planting.

In cooperation with the City of Novi Vinodolski and the municipal company IVANJ d.o.o., the Tourist Board planted ten black ash trees along the future promenade by the Ričina stream, thus greening the area which is certain to become a highly attractive space for walking and recreation. With the introduction of new green areas, this location will gain a new charm it truly deserves.

The project demonstrates how small but thoughtful steps can contribute to the beauty and preservation of nature.
