From the Spring to the Frankopans – Discover a Part of the Trail
To promote another trail from the shared map of hiking and walking paths along the Crikvenica-Vinodol Riviera, the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski, in cooperation with the Tourist Board of Crikvenica and the Tourist Office of the Vinodol Municipality, is organizing a guided walk called From the Spring to the Frankopans, on Saturday, November 18, in collaboration with the Mountaineering Society Strilež.
This time, you’ll get to know a section of the trail that connects the coastal area and the Žrnovnica spring of drinking water with the heroic history of the noble Frankopan family. The full trail starts in Povile, and along the way, visitors usually pass key landmarks such as the Gradina viewpoint, the Old Town of Ledenice, and Žrnovnica spring. Since the full route is moderately demanding, this walk will cover only the coastal section to make it more accessible to a wider audience.
This circular walk is about 8 kilometers long and starts in Povile, a small coastal village known for its beautiful shoreline, clean pebble beach, and charming seaside promenade. Surrounded by the scents of the crystal-clear sea and pine forest, the path leads to Mala Draga beach – a well-known dog-friendly beach during the warmer months. After a short rest, the group will continue along a gravel road to the bay of Žrnovnica, where a public water supply system was built. This source provides high-quality drinking water of mild hardness and a constant temperature of 8°C. Today, it supplies water to Novi Vinodolski, Crikvenica, and the Vinodol Municipality. The area is under high-level protection and direct access to the spring is restricted.
Due to the nature of the walk, participants are kindly asked to register by Thursday, November 16, via email: info@tz-novi-vinodolski.hr. If weather conditions allow, the walk will begin on Saturday at 10:00 AM, with the meeting point at the Garfild restaurant in Dugno, Povile. Although the trail is considered easy, sturdy footwear and water are recommended.
Take advantage of your Saturday morning to spend time in nature and enjoy an active outdoor experience. We’re sure you’ll love it!
