International Museum Day 2024
As in previous years, the People’s Museum and Gallery of Novi Vinodolski will mark International Museum Day this Saturday, May 18.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Museums for Education and Research”, highlighting the importance of museums as dynamic institutions that promote learning, discovery, and understanding.
On May 18, two engaging workshops will be held to reflect this theme:
-
KIDS LOVE BEING ARCHAEOLOGISTS – Mosaic Workshop
A fun dive into the fascinating world of ancient Romans!
Children will be welcomed by professional archaeologist Antonija Mažuranić, who will introduce them to the basics of archaeology – what it is, what archaeologists do, and how excavations are carried out.
They’ll explore the underwater heritage of Novi Vinodolski, learn about the underwater discoveries near San Marino islet, search for ancient Roman amphorae in the museum, and view footage of the late antique Lopar fortress.
Each child will create their own mosaic inspired by history and present it publicly.
Ages: 10–14. -
BEAUTY IN A MOMENT – Jewelry Workshop
A hands-on creative workshop where participants will make hairpins and brooches using real flowers. They’ll learn techniques involving resin and polymer clay.
The workshop will be led by Vlatka Janjić, conservator and restorer, creator of the Petit ukosnic.a brand, which aims to make each accessory a unique, handmade piece of wearable art.
Participants will get to take home their own floral hairpin or brooch.
