The City of Novi Vinodolski, the Tourist Board, the Cultural Center, the Public Library and Reading Room, and KUD Ilija Dorčić invite you to attend a multi-day program dedicated to the Mažuranić family. With a goal of long-term continuity, the aim is to highlight, popularize, and analyze the work of members of one of Croatia’s most important dynasties, examining their life, heritage, and influence from multiple perspectives. The name “Primorci Danici” is inspired by the first poem published by Ban Ivan Mažuranić in Danica in 1835.

This year, you will be able to visit an exhibition of illustrations by the notable Croatian painter Jozo Kljaković, who illustrated The Death of Smail-aga Čengić, accompanied by a commentary from Barbara Kalanj-Butković on this masterpiece of Illyrian movement art. Following are two performances of the play Fran’s Childhood, performed by participants of actress Ana Vilenica’s drama workshop. The play is inspired by Fran Mažuranić’s childhood, as recounted in his autobiographical book From Dawn till Dusk. Ante Peričić will also give a lecture titled Barolde and the Mažuranić Family, focusing on the life and work of Roland Jovanović Barolda—a native of Novi Vinodolski, a London-based architect, poet, painter, and president of the Croatian Cultural Association in London, who devoted many years to researching the Mažuranić family and promoting their name abroad. The program continues with a new performance of Stribor’s Forest by the Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić Theatre Company from Slavonski Brod. On August 11th—Ban’s birthday—we invite all locals to wear their traditional folk costumes and honor one of the most important figures in Croatian history by joining the Novi Vinodolski folk dance.
