On Sunday, February 5th, 2023, the Wedding of the Mesopust Bride will take place in Novi Vinodolski – a humorous, masked wedding reenacted by young and old Mesopustari (Carnival performers), along with other fans of Mesopust customs.

From the morning hours (around 10:30 AM), the old wedding guests (the symbolic fathers of the bride and groom) arrive at the town square (Placa), inviting citizens to the wedding feast (pir).

The bride’s party starts gathering around 1:00 PM in front of the House of Culture, from where – with music – they head off to fetch the bride. Then, around 3:00 PM, the wedding procession returns to the town center, where the Mesopust marriage ceremony takes place.

After the wedding is “official”, the newlyweds and guests follow the traditional route through the harbor to the spring at Mel, where, according to custom, the circle dance (kolo) is performed, and the bride throws an apple into the water. After that, everyone returns to the center of town, in front of the old kaštel (fort), where more dancing takes place.
