30th INTERNATIONAL SUMMER CARNIVAL
In the week from June 27th to July 1st, the jubilee 30th International Summer Carnival took place in Novi Vinodolski. There was no shortage of colors and fun, and given this significant anniversary, which we are all very proud of, the carnival program was enriched with additional days of joy and entertainment.
The carnival program kicked off on June 27th with a grand Photography Exhibition of the Summer Carnival. Visitors to the Tourist Information Center of the Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board enjoyed the photos of extravagant costumes, masks, and reminisced about some of the best moments of the carnival. The second part of the exhibition was spread along the Korzo of Croatian veterans, attracting many tourists who wanted to experience our Carnival over the weekend. The exhibition was open throughout the carnival week.
The days of fun and good mood began on Thursday, June 29th, with a carnival prelude, featuring six DJs from the DJ Academy. The sounds of the best hits from various genres spread through Ivan Mažuranić Square and Frankopan Square, and the vibe was enhanced by the disco ball placed near the stages, inviting people to dance.
As every year, the central event of the carnival was the carnival parades. On Friday, June 30th, around 400 of the sweetest beings in the world, in colorful costumes, creative choreographies, coordinated steps, and above all, sincere smiles, filled the streets and squares of Novi Vinodolski, melting the hearts of their parents and other visitors at the Children’s Summer Carnival. There were cheerful octopuses, Pippi Longstockings, fans of NK Vinodol, Kremenko, and Ružica Vinodola. The city government was officially handed over to Dino Stošić, this year’s president of the Mesopustarsko Society. After the masquerade parade, the atmosphere was taken care of by the groups Trend and Trio Family, stilt acrobats, and the colorful glowing butterfly that particularly attracted the flashes of cameras. On Ivan Mažuranić Square, children enjoyed playing various fun games with animators.
The grand finale of the carnival took place on Saturday with the Grand International Masked Parade, featuring 32 masked groups and over 1,000 fascinating masks. Romans, Slovenian Chinese, Međimurje witches, unicorns, zebras, clowns, tennis players, and many other characters from imagination paraded through the Korzo of Croatian veterans, turning it into a colorful display of positive energy and wild fun. As usual, the grand parade was opened by the Novi Vinodolski Masopustari, followed by the mayor of Novi Vinodolski, Tomislav Cvitković, the director of the Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board, Tena Peričić, the queen and master of the Rijeka Carnival, Maja Babin, and Sandi Pribanić, as well as Ivan Prpić, president of the Croatian Carnivalists Association, who presented the Novi Vinodolski Tourist Board with a special award for its significant contribution to the preservation and valorization of carnival heritage. The fun continued until the early morning hours with music on three stages, provided by the groups Insula, Venus, and Unique. As always, the good atmosphere and fun never lacked
