Children’s Laughter Lit Up the New Advent

In the past week, the Christmas magic has taken over Novi Vinodolski, opening the doors to laughter and joy. The town’s streets and squares became a true fairy tale—adorned with thousands of lights and Christmas decorations, while children’s smiles spread from Santa’s House.

The Feast of St. Nicholas, the patron of children, was celebrated on December 6th with a children’s play and storytelling. Stories of kindness and generosity illuminated children’s hearts, while adults explored their creativity in two packed Wine and Paint workshops. A glass of Pavlomir winery wine added to the festive atmosphere.

Klapa music lovers enjoyed the traditional Klapa Festival on Saturday, featuring six groups: Ošjak, Pinguentum, Lađarice, Puntape, Pučki pivači, and Vinčace—guiding visitors on a journey through the most beautiful melodies.

The rich Advent program continued on Sunday, as the second Advent candle, the Candle of Peace, brought tenderness and tranquility to the hearts of many newcomers. The Sunday program started with the opening of the children’s art exhibition “The Light of Christmas in Children’s Hearts.” Children’s imaginations found expression in colorful works; dreams transformed into shapes and colors illuminated the Reading Room and Library, which will host the exhibition throughout December.

The Director of the Tourist Board took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in organizing the Advent—through the program, city decoration, and enriching Novi’s winter offerings. She invited visitors to embrace the Advent program, where everyone can find something for themselves.

Father Mateo Šutić blessed the second Advent candle, guiding us on a path of peace, and the church children’s choir St. Little Teresa from the parish of St. Philip and Jacob warmed hearts with their angelic voices. Children from Fijolica Kindergarten—groups Zečići, Pčelice, Smokvice, and Suncokreti—performed two songs each with choreography, and students from Ivan Mažuranić Elementary performed three Christmas songs while the 4th graders presented “Yeti,” adding charm and warmth. The children were treated to a surprise visit from Santa Claus, who patiently listened to all their wishes.

Scents of fritters and waffles wafted through Vinodol Law Square, as cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla teased imaginations and the hit songs from Trend added musical delight—all enhancing the Christmas magic.

The blessing of the second Advent candle and children’s program united families and friends, reminding us that the magic of the holidays lies not in gifts, but in togetherness, love, and the enchantment we create together. We invite you to be part of Novi Advent in the weeks ahead—an Advent that will awaken warmth and the magic of Christmas in your hearts.
