Days of Sports and Recreation – FIT4NOVI for Young and Old

Under the slogan “Health Through Sports and Recreation,” the event was held from May 27 to 29, aiming to showcase the beauty and diversity of sports through various demo training sessions and tournaments. Unfortunately, due to unstable weather, the 2022 edition saw several changes in the planned program, though much of it was successfully carried out.

The opening ceremony took place on Friday, May 27 at 4:30 PM at the Small Sports Field, and was officially opened by Mayor Tomislav Cvitković, who thanked the many local associations that continue to support this event now in its sixth year.

Children from the Fijolica Kindergarten’s “Kitovi” group performed two dance routines, followed by a friendly football match featuring NK Vinodol’s youth team—marking the official start of the event.

The “City Districts” small football tournament started on Friday and concluded on Sunday with the team Prisika taking first place, Putnici second, and Placa third. Meanwhile, a tennis tournament was underway in Ivan Mažuranić Park, but due to bad weather, it will conclude on June 16.

Saturday’s events were shortened and moved indoors due to rain. Activities for seniors and sports games took place in the Culture Hall, while Pilates and Zumba sessions bravely continued outdoors on Ivan Mažuranić Square. The handball tournament saw six teams compete in the school sports hall, with Crikvenica taking first place.

Sailing presentations and the HealthyFit workshops by Mario Valentić had to be canceled, along with the anticipated evening concert.

Sunday’s horseback riding demo and popular panoramic cycling tour were also canceled, but indoor tournaments in small football, chess, and table tennis went ahead successfully.

Throughout the event, the local association “Novi korak” sold FIT4NOVI T-shirts to support children with developmental difficulties.

Although the closing concert was canceled, organizers and participants alike were satisfied that more than half the program was carried out despite the weather.
