Following the successful opening of the 11th edition of Okolotorno, which attracted large numbers of visitors to Novi Vinodolski’s Old Town last week, this unique event continues on Wednesday, 15 July, bringing another evening filled with tradition, music, gastronomy, and rich cultural heritage.

At the opening event, visitors enjoyed homemade cakes, rakija, wine, and refreshing juices prepared by members of the Novi Vinodolski Pensioners’ Association. Frankopan Square came alive with the children’s puppet and live-action performance “Three Brothers and Three Towers”, created as part of the Frankopan Routes project, while four musical groups provided a lively atmosphere throughout the Old Town. The experience was further enriched by two traditional coastal taverns serving local prosciutto and wine, as well as a gourmet stand offering creative versions of everyone’s favourite fritule.

Throughout the evening, visitors had the opportunity to meet historical figures such as members of the Frankopan family, Ban Ivan Mažuranić, and renowned writer Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. The town guard, folklore performers dressed in traditional costumes, and specially designed photo corners placed throughout the Old Town brought the atmosphere of bygone times to life and provided the perfect setting for unforgettable memories.

Among the event’s most distinctive attractions was the Frankopan Scriptorium, where visitors could try writing in the ancient Glagolitic script and learn about the traditional production of ink. Demonstrations of wool spinning on a traditional spinning wheel offered another glimpse into the past, while younger visitors had the chance to test their archery skills with a bow and arrow.

Okolotorno continues this Wednesday with another rich and diverse programme. Alongside its signature attractions, visitors can look forward to a special area dedicated to the tradition of beekeeping, as well as another demonstration of wool spinning on a traditional spinning wheel, offering an engaging insight into the way people once lived.
