OKOLOTORNO – THE SPIRIT AND TRADITION OF THE OLD TOWN REVIVED ONCE AGAIN

In the heart of Novi Vinodolski, in the beautiful old town, the manifestation Okolotorno started on Wednesday, July 12th. Many visitors strolled through the narrow, picturesque streets, where every corner welcomed them with numerous surprises and novelties.

At the first edition of Okolotorno this year, 36 exhibitors of various products were presented. You could find beautiful jewelry, handmade products, honey and blackberry products, natural cosmetics, and why not take home a souvenir that carries a memory of Novi.

The 51+ association took care of the visitors’ sweet cravings at Frankopan Square, where the association’s members prepared various cakes. Along the old town, visitors could also find other spots to quench their thirst and satisfy their hunger. This year, two taverns opened in the Old Town, offering excellent local wines, as Novi Vinodolski is known as a wine valley. In hidden alleys, you could also find fine snacks like prosciutto, fried fish, or sweet fritters, a traditional dessert from this region, especially prepared during the Carnival season.

Good fun was provided by tambura bands Novi, Nebuloza, and Fumić, whose coastal sounds complemented the picturesque streets, while the Histri klapa entertained visitors at the square in front of the Church of St. Philip and Jacob with their authentic coastal repertoire.

The proud history of Novi Vinodolski was also revived. On every corner, visitors could encounter the Frankopan family, who shaped the history of Novi Vinodolski, beautiful girls and children in traditional costumes, members of the KUD „Ilija Dorčić”, as well as a photo corner inspired by the Frankopans. The youngest enjoyed face painting by Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, and the older ones could try their hand at archery. It was especially nice to walk through the narrowest street, Uglić, at the end of which was another beautiful place for photos. Of course, the entrance to the town was not so simple, as it was guarded by a special city guard.

Glagolitic letters are also a recognizable motif of Novi Vinodolski, and starting this Wednesday, five Glagolitic letters will be placed throughout the old town. At each letter, visitors will learn something about the places that make up our Novi. This Wednesday, Okolotorno will also be enriched by little carnival participants who will greet all visitors to our town.

The Okolotorno event will be held every Wednesday in July and August until August 30th, and we invite you not to miss the fun it offers and to explore the Old Town in its special attire!
