The Scenic Degenia Trail Delights Hikers
This Saturday brought another fantastic installment of the FIT4NOVI event, featuring a program of Nordic walking and hiking. Let us recall that the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski offers both locals and visitors an attractive FIT4NOVI program, which, among other activities, includes Nordic walking along the historic trails of Novi Vinodolski. This excellent program is organized by the Tourist Board in cooperation with KŠR Gorovo and the Nordic Walking Team Opatija, offering walking routes marked in blue and green – trails suitable for all age groups.
Today’s participants faced a special challenge, as the fourth edition of the program featured the unique and scenic Degenia Trail. More than twenty hikers gathered and, after warming up, set off on the more demanding 11.5 km route, which they completed in 5.5 hours with great enthusiasm. This attractive trail is named after the Velebit degenia, a strictly protected endemic plant species, symbol of the Velebit mountain and Croatia. During the hike, participants passed through two canyon-like valleys and the abandoned village of Sušanj, and upon reaching the 500-meter-high ridge, they enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views.
With perfect weather on their side, the hikers returned to the finish line full of satisfaction and carrying plenty of photos to remember the experience. As always, the organizers ensured that walking poles were available, and this time, a certified mountain guide joined the licensed Nordic walking instructors.
FIT4NOVI continues with more activities throughout May, and the growing number of participants confirms the success of the event. Organizers invite everyone to join in and be part of these events that promote a healthy lifestyle.
