Trees planted as part of the “Croatia Naturally Yours” project
26. May 2023.
The Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski has joined the Croatian National Tourist Board’s initiative to promote sustainable tourism development, titled “Hrvatska prirodno tvoja” – “Croatia Naturally Yours”. The goal of the project was to plant trees to offset the emissions caused by tourist car travel in the Republic of Croatia, and funding was provided for the procurement of saplings and trees.
In addition to planting, the project includes the obligation to care for the saplings, monitor data about the planted trees, and label them with the “Croatia Naturally Yours” sustainable tourism mark. Attention was paid to choosing native species appropriate to the climate and ensuring that trees were planted in visible locations within the destination. The data about the planted saplings was also entered into the European Environment Agency’s tree-planting monitoring app, MapMyFress, with the aim of compiling global data on tree planting.
In collaboration with the City of Novi Vinodolski and the municipal company IVANJ d.o.o., the Tourist Board of Novi Vinodolski has greened the area of Klenovica by planting a total of 12 linden trees along the seafront promenade (towards Konoba Navigare), each marked with the “Croatia Naturally Yours” label.
“This is how we contribute to shaping Croatia’s image as a sustainable and desirable tourist destination. This initiative gives every place in Croatia the opportunity to take a small step toward creating a more beautiful and pleasant stay in our wonderful country,” said Tena Peričić, Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski.
