Sunshine, Klapa Songs and Gourmet Delights: Delights of Novi Hearts Again
Sunny weather, great music and a rich culinary offer drew a large crowd to Ivan Mažuranić Square on Sunday, September 21st, for another edition of Delights of Novi, the traditional event by which Novi Vinodolski bids farewell to summer.
Seats in the shade were in high demand as the air was filled with the aromas of delicious dishes prepared by local restaurateurs. Eleven venues were represented – konobas Navigare, Pod Orajom and Hata, restaurant Admiral, bistro Tomas, bistro-pizzeria Đir, buffet Adria, Aminess Hotel Lišanj, Ekskluziva d.o.o., café-bistro Marnie and the Pavlomir Winery, which complemented the offer with premium wines and sparkling selections.
The menu offered “everything your heart desires” – from Adriatic-style squid salad and tuna pâté, to scampi and mussels in buzara sauce, veal stew with polenta, cuttlefish from the pot, anchovy brodet with chickpeas and polenta, to medallions of Adriatic shrimp in sparkling wine sauce with orange risotto, and braised calamari with fava beans and polenta.
Meat lovers enjoyed handmade pljukanci with beef goulash, Ukrainian cabbage rolls with buckwheat and beef, and Hungarian pork perkelt. The dessert selection was just as rich – millefoglie, ricotta with figs, tiramisu, pancakes, homemade pies and strudels, including a special fig strudel, and for the real sweet tooth – the popular Ukrainian Medovik cake.
Prices were affordable for everyone: gourmet dishes for €5, desserts for €3, and a glass of wine or sparkling wine for only €2.
The true coastal atmosphere was provided by the vocal group Klapa Intriga, while host Boris Novaković introduced the chefs and their culinary creations.
The event was organized by the Tourist Board of the City of Novi Vinodolski, with the support of the City, KTD Ivanj, VIO Žrnovnica Crikvenica Vinodol d.o.o., the 51+ Association, and in collaboration with local restaurateurs. Together, they brought another edition of this popular event that brings people together, delights the senses and promotes the richness of local flavors.
Once again, Delights of Novi proved that the best recipe for saying goodbye to summer is good company, great food, a glass of wine and live music. Those who were there will surely return, and those who weren’t – mark your calendars for next year!
